LORD 406/17

Main features

  • 10:1 Accelerator 17 Volume Mix
  • 6-10 Minute Working Window
  • 12-17 Minute Handling Strength

Product Description

LORD 406/Accelerator 17 is a two-part acrylic adhesive system for bonding prepared or unprepared metals and engineered plastics. LORD 406 is an off-white to tan paste with typical viscosity of 100,000-300,000 cP at 25 deg C. With Accelerator 17, the system mixes at 10:1 by volume or 9.33:1 by weight, has a 6-10 minute working time at 24 deg C, and reaches 60 psi handling strength in 12-17 minutes. Full cure requires 24 hours at 24 deg C. The mixed adhesive is non-sag for vertical and overhead application.

Key features

  • System Mixing: LORD 406 and Accelerator 17 use a 10:1 adhesive-to-accelerator ratio by volume.
  • Mixed-System Work Time: The mixed system has a typical working time of 6 to 10 minutes at 24 deg C.
  • Vertical Application: The mixed adhesive remains in position on vertical and overhead surfaces.

Applications

Prepared or unprepared metals and engineered thermoplastics including polycarbonate, ABS and acrylics.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Thermal Properties
Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.
15 °C
Glass Transition Temperature (Tg)
The glass transition temperature for organic adhesives is a temperature region where the polymers change from glassy and brittle to soft and rubbery. Increasing the temperature further continues the softening process as the viscosity drops too. Temperatures between the glass transition temperature and below the decomposition point of the adhesive are the best region for bonding. The glass-transition temperature Tg of a material characterizes the range of temperatures over which this glass transition occurs.
72 °C
Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
